The voting process for selecting representatives to the LGA Board began this morning. Eligible voters in this election include members of island councils and the presidents of Women's Development Committees. There are a total of 625 eligible island council members and 182 WDC presidents.
To facilitate the voting process, a total of 19 ballot boxes have been stationed across Malé and the various atolls. Voting is scheduled to proceed from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM today.
Under the Decentralization Act, the election for a representative of the city councils on the LGA Board saw only one candidate apply for the single available seat. Consequently, in accordance with electoral procedures, that candidate has been duly elected. The Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Athif, has been appointed to the LGA Board as the representative for city councils.
