The new council building of HDh. Kurin’bi was officially inaugurated on 14 May 2026. The ceremony was officiated by the Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government Authority, Mr. Mohamed Nimal, and the President of HDh. Kurin’bi Council, Mr. Abdulla Aslam.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Local Government Authority, members of the 4th term Kurin’bi Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC), newly elected 5th term Council and WDC members, the President of Haa Dhaalu Atoll Council, representatives of island institutions, and individuals who have served the island community over the years.
The construction of the new council building was funded through the Authority’s PSIP budget. A total of MVR 5,993,392.48, including furniture and fittings, was spent on the project.
The contract for the project was signed on 12 September 2023, and construction was completed on 09 May 2026. The project reached 98 percent completion under the leadership of President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The previous council office, which had served the island for more than 32 years, lacked adequate space and modern facilities required to provide efficient and effective services to the residents of the island. These limitations created significant challenges in service delivery and hindered efforts to improve service quality and introduce modern administrative services.
The newly constructed council building is equipped with modern technological facilities and provides a more spacious and comfortable working environment for employees. The office has been designed to further strengthen administrative functions and enhance the quality of services provided to the citizens of HDh. Kurin’bi.
The inauguration of the new council office marks a significant and historic milestone for the people of HDh. Kurin’bi, fulfilling a long-awaited aspiration of the island community. The new facility is expected to provide a lasting solution to the challenges previously faced in delivering public services and contribute towards improved governance and service delivery for the residents of the island.
